Many managers and supervisors remain stuck in their "comfort zone" - a thinking style that prevents them from accepting new ideas and from working effectively with different personalities.

Example

An employee approaches a linear-oriented manager with a request  - and the manager is currently working on another project - the manager's "comfort zone" would be to tell the employee, "Come back later, I have to finish this project first." Strong linear thinkers prefer to stay focused on one task at a time and often miss the big picture (i.e. they fail to consider the possible ripple effects of their decisions). 

A global-oriented manager (in the same situation) would likely respond immediately to the employee's request, but may procrastinate returning to the initial project after helping the employee. Strong global thinkers are easily distracted - and given a choice - they would prefer to start a new project rather than finish an existing project.  Global thinkers also prefer concepts over details; they tend to be more comfortable with strategic planning and problem-solving than working on the budget or doing inventory.
