Poor written communication among staff, vendors, and customers will always cost your organization time and money. For instance, calculate the time required to create a document (i.e. memo, e-mail, letter or report). Now calculate the time it takes to send out clarifications (or verbally answer questions) because the readers didn't understand the message - even though the writer thought the message was clearly stated. Of course, some employees will not ask for clarification, and complete the task incorrectly.
This process will emotionally drain your writers, since their best attempts to communicate their message repeatedly result in misinterpretation, or inaction.
The primary reason a written message is misinterpreted is because we tend to write like writers, not like readers. Consequently, readers often procrastinate reading a document because the formatting isn't appealing (i.e. they can't immediately find the relevant information they need, or want). And when they do read it, the word choice fails to motivate them to take action. |

Who should attend?
Employees who need to efficiently and effectively communicate their ideas and information inside and outside of your organization.
What will my employees learn?
They will learn how to:
● Write organized & readable memos, letters & reports
● Write e-mails that immediately grab the reader’s attention
● Develop correspondence that motivates a reader to action
● Create effective writing plans for all types of projects
● Research key information quickly and accurately
● Recognize and avoid common grammar and punctuation errors
● Communicate their message efficiently and effectively
Why do you offer 4, 6 & 8-hour formats?
The 6 and 8-hour seminars (available in a 1 or 2-day format) will provide significant hands-on training to help your employees immediately transfer their new skills back to the workplace. The 4-hour seminar will provide participants with essential strategies (and resources) to apply once they return to work (often the same day). The shorter format also serves as a practical refresher for experienced employees (who may not have time to spend a full day away from the office).
How is this seminar different?
Many business writing courses tend to focus on strict rules of grammar and sentence structure. Although these aspects of writing are important, such an emphasis often forces a writer to think only like a writer. We believe a writer should also think like a reader. After all, the primary goal of any written communication is to convey your message as quickly and clearly as possible to your intended readers.
In this seminar, your employees will learn how to format and communicate their message to appeal to their reader's particular learning and thinking strengths. You don't want to flood a "big picture" thinker with too many facts and details, nor do you want to be too general with a detail-oriented reader.
IMPORTANT: We recommend employees bring their current writing assignments (or topics) to this seminar. Our instructor will show them how to apply our strategies directly to the type of writing they must complete on a daily basis.
