It's not easy to return to a formal school setting after many years, especially if you were never particularly fond of long classes, homework, and exams. Because of this, and your concern about juggling school, work,
and family responsibilities, we created a seminar to show you flexible (and practical) strategies to help you become
a more efficient and effective student in school (and
a more efficient learner in the workplace).
By the end of this seminar, you will be able to excel in the following areas:
College-Level Text Readings
● Read faster with better comprehension, retention and recall
● Improve overall concentration while reading (avoid daydreaming)
● Take concise (but thorough) notes while reading
● Minimize amount of time to complete a reading assignment
Lectures
● Stay awake and focused
● Take concise (but thorough) notes
● Understand the professor's overall goal for the course
Research Papers
● Develop a research plan based on their preferred way of learning
● Create efficient timetables for each project
● Create thorough, highly readable, research papers - on time
Exams
● Enter a testing room with confidence and minimal stress
● Complete each exam in the time allotted
● Avoid the "Oh, I should've got that one!" syndrome
● Avoid "cramming" 2 chapters five minutes before the exam begins
Time Management & Organizational Skills
● Avoid "all-nighters"
● Minimize procrastination
● Minimize stress
● Have more time for leisure and recreation - believe it or not
● Schedule work & school responsibilities efficiently
You will learn how to use your personal learning style to efficiently apply a variety of flexible and proven reading and study techniques. Keep in mind, this is not a gimmick course; these techniques do require practice. Fortunately, we make certain you have time in class to get the hands-on experience to become proficient with these learning methods.
To ensure you experience the benefit of these techniques in just 6 hours, you will use your own textbooks and materials to immediately practice what you learn. If you are not currently in school, we will provide your with relevant materials for the in-class activities.
After the seminar, if you need additional help with your learning skills, you can use your TLC Strategies Binder, or you can contact your seminar instructor (for up to 6 months) and receive personalized assistance (see TLC Advisor Program).
If you diligently apply our techniques (in class) you should definitely see an improvement in your reading rate and comprehension by the end of the seminar. But this is more than a "speed reading" course. You will learn a variety of reading techniques that will help you become more efficient readers with all types of reading materials - including complex technical documents.

Definitely! As you become more efficient and effective learners you will embrace change and quickly excel in new assignments. After all, the reason most employees don't like change is because they are worried that they may not be able to learn something new, and learn it fast enough (to keep their job).
