We now offer customized seminars and rates for your fraternity, sorority, school club, and athletic team. You tell us the dates and times - we will send an instructor to your location to show your members how to read faster, write better and think more critically and creatively in every academic subject. But this won't be some generic study skills course. Your members will actually tell us what they want to learn and we can tailor a seminar based on their specific needs.

20-Hour Format - $280 per student
| Flat Rates 5-Hour Format - $1,400 per 20 students 10-Hour Format - $2,800 per 20 students 15-Hour Format - $4,100 per 20 students 20-Hour Format - $5,500 per 20 students If you have 20 members enroll simultaneously, your club, team, etc. is eligible to receive our Flat Rate. This rate also applies to every group of 20 simultaneous enrollments in addition to the first 20 (e.g. 40 enrollments for our 10-hour "Target Reading for College" = $5,600 Flat Rate).
The TLC Scholarship Program can still be applied when using these rates. |
As you can see, these enrollment fees are lower than the normal rate that we charge the general school population (school rates). We can also provide a custom-designed seminar for your members (at the national or local level) with enrollment fees always at least 10% lower than our normal rate.
The seminar rates may increase slightly if we are required to run these programs off-campus, of if there is a charge for the on-campus classroom.
Seminar Concept
There are numerous distractions in college. Some educators tend to think these distractions can be a negative. We believe these distractions help define the college experience. Therefore, our seminars incorporate these distractions and experiences into how you learn and live in a college setting.
Our programs are unique because we will show you how to use your natural learning strengths to become active and confident learners in every subject. This is important since you will likely reject techniques and strategies that require a significant effort - after all, we tend to choose the path of least resistance when we are under stress and feel overwhelmed.
Seminar Methodology
We don't perform miracles (though some of our past students may disagree). Instead, we can help each member of your organization significantly develop his/her own learning capability. We achieve this by showing students how to use their preferred learning style to apply a variety of flexible reading and study strategies in and out of the classroom.
For example, if a member is a strong visual learner, but a weak auditory learner, we will show him/her how to create relevant mental images during lectures to help improve comprehension and retention. We have had students report tremendous results the first time they tried this technique, even before the seminar was completed. In fact, many of our students have said they couldn't believe how easy it was to stay focused in class (for the first time), and how much information they retained despite their minimal effort (see Student Comments). Of course, their effort was likely more significant than they realized, but since they used a more comfortable way of learning, it felt less strenuous than using a generic technique.
In addition, we can help your members use their preferred thinking style to plan and apply their work more efficiently. For example, if a member is a strong global thinker, a step-by-step (or highly structured) time management plan will prove too frustrating to apply. Linear thinkers, on the other hand, tend to be process-oriented and therefore benefit from a more structured approach to their school work.
Each student will complete learning and thinking style surveys on the first day of class. These surveys have been created to help each student recognize their preferred way to learn and process information, not to "label" a person's abilities or capabilities. In fact, we show students how to apply all of our reading and study techniques in a variety of ways - the students will always decide which approach is best for their personality and way of thinking.
By the end of our seminar, students will have developed highly advanced reading skills, critical thinking skills, and comprehensive study skills. Equally important, they will have the confidence to apply these skills in any learning situation - even under pressure.
Your members will actually practice our learning strategies on their current homework assignments during each class session. |
Seminar Scheduling
You can choose the dates and location for your preferred seminar. Our seminars can be as little as 5 hours or as many as 20 hours in length, and will meet during your school's existing class schedule (typically 50 minutes per day or whatever is standard for your school). The sessions will normally meet Monday through Friday, but if it is more convenient for your members, we can also offer evening and Saturday sessions.
The suggested blocks of time are:
5-Hour Seminar: 1 Week
10-Hour Seminar: 2 Weeks
15-Hour Seminar: 3 Weeks
20-Hour Seminar: 4 Weeks
Seminar Awareness
We do need at least 20 enrollments before we can run a seminar on your campus. But we guarantee there will never be more than 10 students per session to ensure each person receives the individual attention needed. If your club, team, etc. doesn't have 20 members, we recommend inviting members from other school-affiliated organizations on your campus - your special rate will not be affected. After all, the purpose is to make our seminars as convenient as possible for your membership.
Since we respect the privacy of your members, we will not recruit directly through telephone calls or unsolicited mailings. Instead, we can provide you with brochures and small posters (listing seminar dates, times, content, etc.) for you to place in high traffic areas within your house, meeting place or campus student center.
If your members are interested in enrolling in one of our seminars, they can contact us directly at 888-514-5904, or visit our web site for information. If you like, we can also arrange to have a member of your organization coordinate the outreach and registration process at your location.
Registration
Enrolled students will have the option to pick a time slot online (up to two weeks before the seminar begins) or on the first day of the seminar. If a student is unable to attend a particular session (due to a scheduling conflict), he or she can attend a duplicate session, or we can arrange for make-up sessions in the evening or on the weekend.
Scholarships
We realize there may be some members of your organization who would like to take our seminar, but it is beyond their financial means. Therefore, we have set up a scholarship program to help deserving students. For every ten paid registrations we receive, Target Learning, Inc. will offer your club, team, etc. one free enrollment (or 2 half-price enrollments). For example, if we receive thirty paid registrations you can select three individuals (presumably from your financial aid roster) to attend our seminar without charge (or six students can attend at half-price). Or, you can use the scholarships as part of your "Flat Rate" to reduce the average per person rate for all the seminar participants.
In the spirit of goodwill (and the hope it will spur additional enrollments), your organization's president or captain is welcome to attend a scheduled program without charge - and of course, the member who coordinates the outreach/registration process (i.e. distributes brochures, registration cards, arranges classroom logistics, etc.) will also be allowed to attend a scheduled program without charge.
Seminar Guarantee
If a member is not satisfied at the completion of the seminar, and he/she has attended every session, we will gladly provide that student a full refund - minus the cost of the TLC Student Binder.
