What type of materials do
the students receive?
We will provide each student with a binder
containing handouts, worksheets, templates and
step-by-step guidelines for implementing our
reading and study strategies. Students
should bring their textbooks to class since
they will immediately be applying our strategies
in their current homework assignments.
How is this different
from other reading and study skills programs?
Many educational programs tend to offer specific
learning techniques that work well for the
average student in a controlled and non-competitive
learning environment (i.e. without grades).
But when dealing with stress, anxiety and multiple
distractions the brain always seeks the path
of least resistance. As a result, if the
learning technique is too rigid, a student's
brain will simply bypass the new technique and
resort to his or her old way of completing the
task (because it is familiar and easier to implement
- regardless of its effectiveness).
This program is different because we will show
students how to apply a variety of learning
strategies using their preferred learning
and thinking style. This is a proven method
for efficient learning since it uses their natural
learning aptitude - this allows their brain
to "default" to their most comfortable way of
processing information, which becomes quite
handy during high stress situations.

styles,

Will students be reading
at supersonic speeds by the end of this program?
This is not a gimmick course. Some reading skills classes
say students will be able to read 5,000 words
per minute with 100% comprehension in just a
few hours of instruction. It sounds appealing,
but it is physically impossible for the human
eye to capture every word at that reading speed.
In fact, once a reader moves beyond 1,000 words
per minute, he or she is forced to skip words,
thus sacrificing comprehension.
In this program, students will learn how to
research and review written material
at 3,000+ words per minute. But when total
comprehension is required, our primary reading
strategies will help students quickly tackle
any type of reading assignment, whether it is
long, complex, or just plain boring.
What if a student still wants to read really,
really fast? Well, if they diligently apply the techniques
presented in this program, they should see an improvement in their reading rate and
comprehension within a few days.
See reading scores from our past students
Naturally, continued application of these techniques
will help students significantly build on their
early success. We are not teaching miracle techniques;
these reading methods have been in use for more
than 40 years. We simply show students how to
recognize words and phrases in a way that is
common for fast readers.
What can students do
if they need more help after the program?
Each student will have (unlimited) online access
to their instructor for 6 months following the
program. For example, if two months after the program a student must deal with a homework
problem that requires a specific learning strategy,
he or she can e-mail the instructor with the
specifics and the instructor will respond within
48 hours with detailed reading or study strategies
relevant to the student's situation.
And remember, students can also refer to their
TL Student Binder to retrieve a particular learning
strategy that will work best for them.
